House of the Dragon Featurette Delves Into Familiar GoT Locations

The House of the Dragon premiere was a huge success for HBO Max, and everyone is right back into the world of Westeros. While Game of Thrones fans can instantly remember locations from the original series, we have a new featurette that looks at the forgotten King’s Landing in the series.

Watch this:

The cast and crew describe the various changes made to recognizable sets like the Red Keep and the Throne to reflect the decadence of the time period and how they evolved over time.

No doubt the most iconic centrepiece that brings both shows together is the Iron Throne which has been ‘upgraded’ for HOTD, with the implication that the Targaryen Dynasty had faded by the time of Daenerys—hence the smaller throne in the original show.

Besides the Throne Room, we also have different locations in the Red Keep as well as different locations around the kingdom like the Dragon Pit and Harrenhal. Though these locations were decrepit and broken in GoT, we get to see them in their full glory during the time of the Targaryen Dynasty. Too bad we’ll have to see all of it come crashing down soon—especially with the brewing grab for power between Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen (not to mention some other interested parties).

So far House of the Dragon has started with some strong reviews, and fans are hopeful for this new era of Thrones. Catch new episodes streaming on HBO Max every Sunday.
