House of the Dragon Season 2 Already in Development?
Published 3 months ago
It’s been three years since the end of Game of Thrones, and HBO is ready to jump back into the world of Westeros this August with House of the Dragon. While the show hasn’t even premiered yet, word has it that HBO is already gearing up for some more ancient Targaryens.
As for Redanian Intelligence, word is going around that development has already begun for the second season of House of the Dragon. While no official announcement has been made on HBO’s part, the site is suspecting that it will arrive sometime near the premiere of the show or close to the finale.
While Game of Thrones did kind of end badly for a lot of viewers, there is still a lot of interesting lore surrounding the world, and there are hundreds of ways that people can tell their story in George R.R. Martin’s adult fantasy setting.
In an old interview with THR, HBO’s Casey Bloys has expressed optimism for House of the Dragon:
“Typically speaking, I like to take an approach where we will talk about what a second season might look like and talk about scripts. But we tend to like to see how a show performs. That said, if I were betting, I’d say there’s a pretty good shot that House of the Dragon will get a season two. But we tend to like things to air and give it some time. That said, on most shows, we’ll do preparation and put ourselves in a good position to move forward.”
Though the original show did end poorly for fans, House of the Dragon has the benefit of hindsight on its part—not to mention they have completed source material, unlike GoT which had to come up with its own ending toward the final seasons.
Fingers crossed HOTD rejuvenates interest for the World of Ice and Fire.
House of the Dragon comes to HBO Max on Aug. 21. A second season has not been officially announced.
