J.K. Simmons’ Younger Jim Gordon Spotted on the Set of Batgirl

J.K. Simmons is sure making a comic book movie comeback. After reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he’s now set to come back as DC’s Commissioner Gordon in HBO Max’s Batgirl movie. We don’t have any official trailer yet, but Simmons has been spotted on set in costume.

With Gordon’s hair already gray in Justice League, this scene looks to be a flashback with Gordon’s hair still a bit red. We can assume that the characters with him are his wife and his child, both named Barbara Gordon.

In the comics, Jim Gordon actually splits with his wife, and it’s possible that could be what happens in this timeline as well. Heck, Gordon even lost his family in The Dark Knight Rises, so it’s possible the same thing could happen here as well.

What I’m interested to see is the dynamic between young Barbara Gordon and her father Commissioner Jim Gordon. With Barbara doing superhero work in secret, she would have to be careful around her father. At some point, you could even consider Jim to be a secondary antagonist in the film—depending on Batman’s relationship with the police in this movie.

While we only got a short look at Simmons in Justice League, hopefully Batgirl gives him some more to do with the character. Let’s just wait and see.

No release date has been set for Batgirl yet, but fans are hopeful that it will hit HBO Max late 2022 or early next year.
