Spider-Man's Jacob Batalon Stars in First Teaser for Reginald the Vampire

Jacob Batalon may play second fiddle to Tom Holland in the Spider-Man movies, but he’s set to take center stage with Syfy’s upcoming series Reginald the Vampire.

Thanks to SDCC, we have a first teaser for the series, and it has Batalon coping with his sudden immortality. Watch this:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Imagine a world populated by beautiful, fit and vain vampires. Reginald Andres tumbles headlong into it as an unlikely hero who will have to navigate every kind of obstacle – the girl he loves but can’t be with, a bully manager at work and the vampire chieftain who wants him dead. Fortunately, Reginald discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own. A new show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, “Reginald the Vampire” proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself.

The series is based on the Fat Vampire books from Johnny B. Truant which looks to turn the modern vampire trope on its head. Though characters like Edward Cullen have solidified the pale, beautiful vampire stereotype, Reginald is meant to be a bit less elegant and awkward when it comes to his transition into a creature of the night.

Though Batalon makes for a fun Ned Leeds beside Spider-Man, I’m curious what he’s like actually being the lead of a show. While vampire series are always expected to be serious, I think Reginald will be a lot more fun, like What We Do in the Shadows, but more teen-oriented.

Reginald the Vampire premieres on Syfy on Oct. 5.
