James Spader & Megan Boone Talk THE BLACKLIST Season Finale

“Red’s at a crisis point” teases James Spader in this new video interview exploring the events of tonight’s season finale of The Blacklist on NBC.

In “Masha Rostova” Red is forced to use his special connections in order to help clear Liz’s name when the Cabal frames her for murder.

With viral markers in her blood, Liz’ account of a secret Cabal working to control and occasionally undermine the government sounds every bit the tall tale the Cabal intend it to.

And that crisis isn’t just a “life or death thing,” according to Spader. “Some of his concerns and some of his worries are about Elizabeth Keen’s exposure, because of him, because of his history, and that has really come into play.”

“The last few episodes of the season are all heavily connected with one another, and they come to a dramatic conclusion in the finale that throws all the pieces they they may feel familiar with up in the air. Where they land will be determined by season 3,” he laughs.

And as for Red and Liz and their fraught relationship? “You don’t really know what the nature of the relationships are going to be – or what the future holds for each and every one of the cast members,” warns Spader.

Not only that but the status of the task force as a whole is “completely thrown into disarray,” he previews.

“We’re entering into the finale with the knowledge that Elizabeth Keeen is Masha Rostova in Russia to a KGB agents” adds Megan Boone.

“She’s a little bit closer to understanding who she is and where she came from. But in order to save Reddington’s life she has made enemies with the Cabal. They come after her. She has become a target.”

However it’s not just Keen who becomes a target, but the entire task force too. “We end up fighting for our lives.”

“I’m willing to do most things, but the things that Elizabeth Keen goes though in this episode, I sat those out,”  Boone laughs as she explains the nature of the stunt and pyrotechnic-heavy finale. “They were threatening. I thought I might end up in the hospital!”

“And Tom Keen? That’s all I’m going to say,” she adds cryptically.

Catch The Blacklist season finale Thursday May 14 at 9 pm on NBC.
