Netflix Releases Official 'Death Note' Trailer, Kira Takes The Role Of God

It’s out! Netflix has just released an official “Death Note” trailer and it shows just how powerful the notebook can be. Not only that, it also shows a glimpse of the cat and mouse chase between characters L and Light Turner. And it looks like a new “God” will be emerging from the sea of people.

The Story Of The ‘Death Note’

Light Turner (Light Yagami in the original Japanese manga) goes from a powerless individual to one with a divine ability. After getting beat up, a notebook falls from the sky and he finds out it’s a “death note.” Inscribed inside of it are the rules. The first rule saying “The human whose name is written in this notebook shall die.” This ultimately changes Light’s life, along with the appearance of the death god, Ryuk. The trailer gives a little sneak peak of one of the most anticipated characters, Ryuk, complete with the otherworldly face and attire.

So for “Death Note” we have a death god, Ryuk, and a student (Light) trying to be God through a persona named “Kira”. He kills criminals through the death note and manages to make people believe the “justice of Kira”.There’s also L, who’s trying to find the culprit for all the mysterious murders, 400 murders to be specific. The genre thriller definitely comes alive with the cat and mouse chase, explosions, and the limits of the ability itself. Just how far can the death note take them? And just how much of a God does Light plan to be?

Fan’s Reservations For ‘Death Note’

Netflix’s adaptation has been in the spotlight because of reactions coming from hardcore “Death Note” manga and anime fans. There’s a controversy accusing the adaptation of whitewashing and Americanizing the film too much. Ever since the release of the “Death Note” teaser, fans had had their reservations about the upcoming Netflix release.

Director Adam Wingard defends the production from negative remarks but other fans still have their doubts. Nat Wolff will be playing as one of the lead characters, Light Turner, Lakeith Stanfield as L, Willem Dafoe as Ryuk, and Margarett Qualley as Mia Sutton (Misa Amane in the original Japanese manga). Netflix’s “Death Note” will be out on August 25th.
