Star Wars: Special Look at Andor Connects the Series to Rogue One

Cassian Andor may have died on the shores of Scarif, but he’s back for a prequel with the upcoming series Andor. The series is set to premiere this Wednesday, and we have a new special look at the show and how it connects to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Watch this:

Though Cassian was a pretty seasoned rebel in Rogue One, here we get to see him working pre-Rebellion, as someone who was still against the Empire, even if he had no ideal to stand behind. With Cassian pretty jaded by the time of Rogue One, maybe Andor will show us how he got to be that way, and the darker things he had to do in the name of the Rebel Alliance.

Some are also considering this show as some kind of origin story for Rebel leader Mon Mothma. Though we get to see her as part of the senate alongside Padme Amidala in Revenge of the Sith, here we get to watch her navigate the transition from the Republic to the Empire, and Mothma will be forced to rub shoulders with some less-than-honorable types, all with the goal to make sure the Empire doesn’t win.

It’s been said that Andor is a more political story that doesn’t rely on familiar characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi or The Book of Boba Fett, so I am pretty excited for the show. With the previous series trying to pander to the more nostalgia-focused fanbase, I’m eager for something more experimental in the franchise.

Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint.

Andor premieres on Disney+ this Wednesday, Sept.21.
