Taika Waititi will Return for Third Season of The Mandalorian

Taika Waititi sure is a busy guy, and besides starring in Our Flag Means Death and directing Thor: Love and Thunder, he’s going to be making a return to another one of Disney’s more popular IP.

As per Slash Film, Waititi will be returning to star in the third season of The Mandalorian. We know that Waititi played IG-11 in the first season, which actually saw the character’s demise by the end, but it’s possible he could be playing someone entirely new with Mando 3. My pitch has always been just to have Waititi voice all of the IG droids, so there could be room for him to play the more popular IG-88.

If anything, Mando shouldn’t eat up too much of Waititi’s time, seeing that it’s only a voice role. Besides OFMD and Thor, he’s also attached as producer for What We Do in the Shadows and Resevation Dogs; he’s also working on adaptations of Flash Gordon, The Incal and his own Star Wars movie. I wonder if there are any updates on that Akira project?

We don’t know where the next season of The Mandalorian could go, but The Book of Boba Fett has pretty much pushed the story forward. Now Grogu is back with Mando by choice, and he has a whole new ship for flying around the galaxy in—too bad it won’t be as roomy as the Razor Crest though.

No release date has been set for the next season of The Mandalorian, but the series is expected to return sometime later this year.
