The Adam Project Star Cast as Disney's Percy Jackson

We’ve known for a while that Disney+ has greenlit a reboot of the Percy Jackson franchise, but we have yet to get any news on who they’ve cast as the lead. Now it looks like they’ve found someone to be the face of The Olympians, and it’s surprisingly a familiar face from Netflix.

As per the Disney press release, Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) has been cast as Perseus “Percy” Jackson in Disney+’s adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. No other cast members have been announced, but you can bet that the show will be looking to cast the main trio of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover first.

Scobell is admittedly a newcomer when it comes to the spotlight, but he definitely turned heads when he was cast to play a younger Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s The Adam Project. Based on the character description of Percy though, Scobell may just have to tap into that cynicism if he’s going to bring the son of Poseidon to life:

Percy Jackson is a smart and compassionate kid with a sharp sense of humor. He’s always seen himself as an outsider, in no small part because of how the world sees his ADHD and dyslexia. He’s impulsive and rambunctious and is quick to anger when things seem unfair to him. But beneath his cynicism is an affectionate son and loyal friend who just wants to do right by those he cares about. If only he could find a place where he fits in.

With Harry Potter propelling Daniel Radcliffe into superstardom, we can probably expect Percy Jackson to do the same for Scobell. Fingers crossed that he actually manages to get out of this project with minimal trauma and some valuable acting experience. If anything, he’s going to be the hero of a generation—if this series manages to run a smooth course, that is.

Here’s the synopsis for the show:

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.

No official release date has been set for Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. In the meantime, you can check out Scobell in The Adam Project now screening on Netflix.
