THE BLACKLIST SCOOP: Season 7B Returns with a Surprisingly Tender Whodunnit

For fans of The Blacklist, Season 7's winter hiatus is almost over.

The show returns to NBC on March 20 with a double episode spring premiere, tying together a birthday party, a faux funeral, a heist, a ballet, an ancient Byzantine curse, and a whodunnit, all over two highly entertaining hours.

If you've been looking for a reprieve from season 7's previous backstory-heavy fare, including all things Katarina Rostova, Liz's on and off again relationship with Red, and Red's true identity, then these two linked, light-hearted and adventurous episodes may just be what you're looking for.

Ushering in the hour at 8 pm is "Victoria Fenberg," an episode in which Red works to track down the identity of a gifted art forger who has inadvertently managed to thwart his plans to sell stolen pieces of an ultimate art collection. Oops!

Then at 9, in "Cornelius Ruck" Red finds himself caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse on a deserted private island during a snowstorm.

We've screened both episodes a little early, thanks to our friends at NBC, and as is our way, have prepared a number of teasers on both instalments for those looking for some additional scoop.

As always, we promise to abide by the network's request not to reveal major plot points or character developments that would spoil your enjoyment of the live episodes. However, Scoop and Spoiler articles from our magazine do dip a toe in spoilery waters, so please proceed with caution.

Finally, as a special request, we ask readers not to copy and paste chunks of the article onto social media – both as a courtesy to those who would prefer not to read details in advance – and to us, as it hurts our readership. The Woman in Paris

Part adventurous romp, part whodunnit, the Spring Premiere is, overall, a breezy and fun reintroduction to our favourite Blacklist characters. However the show would be remiss if it didn’t address Katarina, aka the Woman in Paris, in some fashion. After all, that plot line was a major recurring theme over the first half of this season, and will no doubt be reintroduced before season 8.

That moment comes, very nicely, in a brief conversation between Red and Liz, when Liz asserts her belief that the woman in Paris was in fact her mother.

Red gently attempts to dissuade her of that notion, telling her that her “mother is gone” and that the woman in Paris, like his exquisite Byzantine-era golden nesting casket that he desperately didn’t want to believe was fake, actually was.

It’s a brief, neat callback to the first half of the season, but it’s made poignant here by a clever comparison.
