The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto Joins Star Wars: The Acolyte

Manny Jacinto may have played a fake monk in The Good Place, but we could be seeing him play an actual monk in an upcoming Star Wars spinoff.

According to Deadline, Jacinto has been cast in The Acolyte, a series set during the High Republic era of Star Wars which will explore the emerging powers of the Dark Side. No details have been revealed about Jacinto’s role, but I expect a series about a dark fantasy cult would be pretty serious and not have as much levity.

Besides Jacinto, the series had already cast the likes of Amandla Stenberg and Jodie Turner-Smith for the show. It’s also worth noting that Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae has also been cast as The Acolyte’s male lead.

With Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland at the helm of the series, fans are expecting The Acolyte to be one of the more experimental entries in the Star Wars franchise. With The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi becoming huge victims to nostalgia pandering, some fans are hoping that we would get some more variety when it comes to these Star Wars show. Personally, I’m a fan who prefers watching some more creative voices in the universe, rather than just making sure that the lore checks out.

For now, no specific release date has been announced for The Acolyte, but the series is expected to hit Disney+ sometime in the summer of 2023. In the meantime, SW fans wait for Andor which is set to premiere this coming Sept. 21.
