Watch: How Disenchanted Captures the Magic of the Original

Enchanted was a hit movie when it came out back in 2009, but Disney had to wait until now to finally give us a sequel. Now fans are waiting for the premiere of Disenchanted on Disney+, and we have a new featurette of how the film manages to capture the spirit of the original.

Watch this:

With Amy Adams’ Giselle at the very heart of the first movie, they plan to put her front and center again for this sequel. But instead of Giselle bringing around her Disney Princess-level optimism to a bleak world, she’s kind of worn down by her reality and is wishing for a return to Andalasia. Throw in a dash of magic, and we have ‘Wicked Giselle’.

Though I think ‘Evil Giselle’ would have been a fun, surprise villain, the movie still gives us Maya Rudolph’s character for her to clash with. I guess you can’t have your Scarlet Witch without an Agatha Harkness; am I right, Marvel fans?

Here’s the official synopsis:

It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.

Disenchanted comes to Disney+ on Nov. 18.
