Watch: The Office Intro, but it’s Minions

Illumination is gearing up for the release of Minions: Rise of Gru in July, and since that’s coming next week, we have a fun bit of marketing with The Office intro replacing all the characters with Gru and the minions.

Check it out:

To celebrate Steve Carrell and the Minions: Rise of Gru theatrical release on July 1, here is a re-imagining of The Office opening credits with Gru and his Minions.

Sometimes you can forget that Carrell is the voice of Gru as a lot of people know him better as Michael Scott, but this is a fun bit of cross-promotion marketing on Peacock’s part. You’d think they would have found a way to put the banks’ Mr. Perkins in the short, seeing that his voice actor, Will Arnett, also had a guest appearance in The Office.

I guess it’s great that they brought back the Gru character for Minions, seeing that the first Minions-only spinoff was kind of lackluster. While they do provide great comic relief, the film doesn’t really have the same heart at the core of it without Gru and his daughters. Who knows, maybe Rise of Gru will be able to have that emotional core, but I’m not really expecting too much. As long as kids love it, it’ll be fine.

In the 1970s, young Gru tries to join a group of supervillains called the Vicious 6 after they oust their leader — the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles. When the interview turns disastrous, Gru and his Minions go on the run with the Vicious 6 hot on their tails. Luckily, he finds an unlikely source for guidance — Wild Knuckles himself — and soon discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.

Minions: Rise of Gru comes to theaters on July 1.
