WB Allegedly Cancels Release of Batgirl Movie Indefinitely

With production having wrapped for Batgirl, fans thought that all they really had to do was wait for the release on HBO Max. As it turns out, they might not be seeing this DCEU entry at all.

According to Deadline, WB has been going through some major shakeups, and their lineup of films has been going through a reassessment. Apparently, WB has decided to shelve the Batgirl movie, and we won’t be seeing it release in any platforms—whether it be in theaters or on HBO Max.

This comes as a huge shock for fans, seeing that the movie is already in the final stages of post-production. WB has no specific reason on why they chose to shelf Batgirl, but word is going around that the film ‘did not fall in line with the new strategy being implemented by DC Films as well as HBO Max.’

We don’t know exactly what they had planned for the Batgirl film, but besides Leslie Grace as the lead and Brendan Fraser as her villain, the movie was also expected to have Michael Keaton show up as Batman as well.

Some speculate that WB is now slowly gearing up for the restoration of the ‘Snyderverse’ and this movie simply doesn’t follow that format. Others think that the movie is just downright terrible. Either way, fans are fearing for other projects currently in development like the Black Canary solo movie as well as Blue Beetle.

Personally, I think it’s crazy disrespectful what they’re doing to the cast and crew who worked hard on the film, but in the end of the day, it’s going to be a business decision. Hopefully fans can generate enough buzz online for the release of Batgirl so that Grace can have her day in the sun.

Batgirl has now been shelved indefinitely.
