WB Lawsuit Reveals Edge of Tomorrow Series was in the Works

Word was going around that a sequel to 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow was in the works, but we have barely gotten any updates on the movie. What’s interesting is, it looks like a sequel was in the works with WB, but the plans have likely been scrapped.

A recent lawsuit between WB and Village Roadshow (via Eriq Gardner) has revealed that a big-budget series had been planned based on Edge of Tomorrow. Here’s the post:

We don’t know what direction the sequel could have gone, but some speculate that it would have been a prequel that would follow the story of Rita (Emily Blunt) and how she got the title of Full Metal Bitch. After the ending of the first movie, it would be odd to just undo the victory that Cage won; but then again, a prequel might mean that Tom Cruise couldn’t be appearing in it, and he’s the franchise’s most bankable star.

With the lawsuit though, it may seem that we won’t get any follow-up to Edge of Tomorrow anytime soon. Though WB had tried to take initiative by having their films released on HBO Max, it’s resulted in a lot of burned bridges from directors like Christopher Nolan and now Village Roadshow.

Hopefully the two parties can come to some kind of settlement in the future. If Scarlett Johansson and Disney can come to an agreement, maybe WB and VR can.

For now, no release has been announced for a follow-up to Edge of Tomorrow.
