A Funeral Gets Intense in New Clip from The Batman

Ben Affleck may not be coming back, but WB is going all-in hyping up the Robert Pattinson-fuelled The Batman. Advanced tickets go on sale in a few weeks, and the film has decided to release one whole intense clip from the film featuring a literal crashing of a funeral.

Watch this:

We don’t know whose funeral this is for, but you can see that Bruce finds himself attached to one child—presumably orphaned with the death of his father. Things suddenly take a turn for the worse when a car crashes into the funeral with a message for the Batman.

With fans going over the trailers to get a good understanding of Matt Reeves’ tone for the film, I think this scene actually portrays it best. Though aesthetically we have a lot of gothic buildings and muted colors, the scene pretty much plays out like one from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. It’s kind of like Reeves is trying to marry both styles of the Burton and Nolan films—but that’s just my take based on one scene. I’m completely open to him bringing something entirely new for his iteration of The Batman.

It’s unclear how WB wants to push forward with their DCEU franchise, but rumors suggest that The Flash will be doing some kind of Days of Future Past timeline wipe. While I’m all up for more DC, it is kind of a bummer that the Snyder-verse won’t continue. Hopefully we can just get past it and enjoy incoming stories moving forward.

In his second year of fighting crime, Batman uncovers corruption in Gotham City that connects to his own family while facing a serial killer known as the Riddler.

Advance ticket sales for The Batman go up on Feb. 10. The Batman hits theaters on March 4.
