Asteroid City: Wes Anderson Returns in New Trailer

Science Fiction isn’t really the genre director Wes Anderson is known for, but it looks like he’ll be taking on some kind of alien story with his upcoming movie Asteroid City.

Just in, Focus Features has dropped a new trailer featuring Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, and more. Check this out:

The official synopsis reads:

ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. Synopsis: The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

For a movie as star-studded as a Wes Anderson flick, the trailer is pretty sparing when it comes to who they’ve featured. So far, Schwartzman, Johansson, and Hanks have been at the center of the preview; but we also got glimpses of Maya Hawke, Steve Carrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Bryan Cranston.

Besides them, the movie will also feature a lot of Anderson regulars including Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, and Willem Dafoe. New collaborators also include Hong Chau, Margot Robbie, and Sophia Lillis.

Like any Wes Anderson picture, Asteroid City promises a kooky premise with a dysfunctional family in the middle of it all. It’s unclear what exactly is going to take place in the story, but you have to commend Anderson for perfecting his cinematic style, from the framing to the colors. It’s going to be a nice break from all the superhero movies this year.

Watch out for Asteroid City which comes to cinemas on June 16.
