Avatar: the Way of Water First Teaser Officially Released

As promised, the trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water comes out online the week after the launch of Doctor Strange, and boy is this return to Pandora such a visual feast.

The official description reads:

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

While it has been explained that the movie will focus more on the sea life of Pandora this time around, I kind of forgot that there was still the case of the humans on the planet. While another ‘humans vs. Na’vi’ story could be the way the series wants to go, I think a filmmaker of James Cameron’s status would want a story that was more out of the box.

I am curious about those tribal-looking humans; I mean, we know humans need an avatar to properly survive the harsh environment of Pandora, but an actual human just living in the nature? That makes for some interesting character exploration.

No doubt we’ll be seeing more of this film as the year trudges along. With Avatar sitting as the highest-earning box office film of all time for so long, you can bet its return to the big screen is going to be treated as some kind of major event.

Catch Avatar: The Way of Water when it hits theater on Dec. 16.
