Ben Whishaw was Disappointed in Q’s Sexuality Reveal in No Time to Die

No Time to Die was considered to be a good send-off for Daniel Craig’s James Bond, but one cast member thought that the film could have done better.

Talking to The Guardian, Q actor Ben Whishaw reveals he was a tad disappointed about Q’s role in the film, and how the reveal of his sexuality kind of felt flat to him. He explains:

“I’m very happy to admit maybe some things were not great about that [creative] decision… I think I thought, ‘Are we doing this, and then doing nothing with it?’ I remember, perhaps, feeling that was unsatisfying,”

Even if Whishaw thought it was disappointing, he did say that he thinks that it ‘came from a good place,’ and adds, But it’s a very big machine. I thought a lot about whether I should question it. Finally I didn’t. I accepted this was what was written. And I said the lines. And it is what it is.”

With the movie already being large as it is, it’s kind of understandable that they didn’t delve too much into Q’s personal life. After all, this is James Bond’s film, and the movie obviously wanted to focus on him and the characters that were closer to him.

We don’t know if any of the Bond cast from the “Craig era” will be coming back for the next film, seeing that Ralph Fiennes (M) and Whishaw (Q) have only appeared in three films so far.  It would be great if they come back, but maybe the franchise is ready for another ground zero reboot.

The next Bond film after No Time to Die has not been announced.
