Better Call Saul: Patrick Fabian’s Actual IG Photos were Used for Howard’s Funeral

The latest episode of Better Call Saul had us looking at the aftermath of Howard Hamlin’s sudden murder, and though his funeral scene was meant to be somber, there’s a neat inside joke when it comes to actor Patrick Fabian.

As fans have pointed out online, the photos used in the funeral scene actually come from Fabian’s Instagram account. Check these out:

While it would have been characteristic for Howard to have some kind of portrait of himself available, I think it completely tracks with the character to be as outgoing as Fabian was, with the bicycle marathons and scuba diving trips. I think it also adds a storytelling element that Howard’s sudden death led for people to search online for photos of his funeral, but Instagram didn’t exist yet at the time of Better Call Saul, so I guess that theory kind of falls apart.

Though Howard did have a minimized role in the mid-seasons, he has found a way to become one of the most relevant characters in Season 6. Not only does he become the victim of Jimmy and Kim’s scam, but he also manages to do an accurate teardown of both characters before he meets his end with Lalo.

For now, the latest episode implies that we could be jumping forward to the Breaking Bad timeline, but maybe something could change. I would love to know what happens to Kim during this time because she’s just as much a lead of this series as Bob Odenkirk is.

Catch Better Call Saul Mondays on AMC.
