Ewan McGregor is a Talking Cricket in First Teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

Almost everyone may be familiar with the story of Pinocchio via Disney’s beloved animated film, but Guillermo del Toro set to take another stab at the story of the mischievous puppet with the help of Netflix. Just in, we have a new teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

Watch this:

The film is described as a stop-motion musical adventure that follows the mischievous adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.” The film has actually managed to gather a star-studded cast which includes Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturo, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton. As for the main cast, we have Ewan McGregor as the Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto, and newcomer Gregory Mann as the main character Pinocchio.

Though fans are familiar with Disney’s Pinocchio, the studio has been known to sugar-coat stories to align with their kid-friendly brand. Del Toro’s take on the character is said to be a lot darker, and will include some darker elements from the original tale that didn’t make the Disney cut; plus it’s also inspired by the art of Gris Grimly—perfect for the same studio that brought us Corpse Bride.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set during the rise of Fascism in Mussolini’s Italy, PINOCCHIO — a musical directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson (FANTASTIC MR. FOX) with a score by Alexandre Desplat — is a story of love and disobedience as Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father’s expectations.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio hits Netflix this December.

Could This Confirm Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Cameo in Doctor Strange 2?
