First Look At Rami Malek As Freddie Mercury In Bohemian Rhapsody

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy? From the pose to the attitude to the trademark mustache, the first picture of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury blasts us back to the past. The Mr. Robot star will portray the legendary Queen frontman in the upcoming biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse), the film centers around Mercury’s part in Queen’s rise to fame. The picture released by Entertainment Weekly shows Malek mimicking the iconic musician’s look at the Live Aid performance in 1985. He effortlessly channels Mercury’s unapologetic on-stage cool and charisma. Looks like he’s got the confidence down – but what about the voice?

Bohemian Rhapsody Will Honor The Music Of Queen

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Bryan Singer promised that Bohemian Rhapsody will not be a traditional biopic. He also added that it won’t just cover Freddie Mercury’s tragic death, though it will be touched upon. Instead, Bohemian Rhapsody will honor the music and also Freddie Mercury’s story.
“It’s about collaboration. It’s a celebration,” Singer said.
In line with this, the biopic also features singing scenes. Malek will not only channel Mercury’s look and attitude but also his voice. Parts of the biopic will feature recordings of Mercury’s voice and also singing from Malek himself mixed together.
“We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible,” Malek said. “I’m in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”
