First Official Look at 'Shazam!' Revealed, Trailer to Drop at SDCC 2018

Shazam is looking fine as hell! The first official photo of the upcoming DC movie has been released, and fans all over the internet are bursting with excessive amounts of excitement. Shazam! Cinematographer Maxime Alexandre posted the image on Instagram, along with giving fans an official date (July 21!) to look forward to as the trailer will drop at the San Diego Comic Con 2018. Seriously, the DC Hall H panel is coming in packed with loads of previews to melt every fans’ fragile heart.

Of course, we saw a few leaked images of Shazam’s suit a few months ago, but today’s official full-body photo makes everything worth the wait. It features Zachary Levi in character as the hero with Jack Dylan Grazer’s Freddy Freeman as they both enjoy a box of cold cola. It’s a perfect picture that captures Billy Batson’s (played by Asher Angel) pre-teen nature that’s also echoed well by Levi’s near-accurate portrayal of the famous DC character.

The suit also draws heavy inspiration from Shazam’s New 52 iteration, but it includes massive changes to how it looked like in the leaked images. A Redditor posted a comparison of the suit’s notable upgrades, and it honestly makes things look even better than when Shazam’s live-action costume was first teased:

The first photo was criticized for being too bulky, but the new official image added a few distinct details, making Levi’s body look a little bit more realistic.

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will not appear in ‘Shazam!’

In other news, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said in an interview with SyFy Wire that his character, Shazam villain Black Adam, will not cameo in the film. It was first planned to include Black Adam in the movie as the main antagonist. But due to the multitude of projects that Johnson is attached to finish, Warner Bros. might’ve decided to delay his appearance a little bit longer. Instead, Mark Strong was then tapped to star as Dr. Sivana, another of Shazam’s main villains in the comics.

“I’m not in that one,” Johnson said. “It’s Shazam and Black Adam and, with the way the DC universe works, we should — in theory — meet up on the big screen. But who knows.”

While this comes as a confirmation from the actor himself, things could still change about whether or not we’ll get to see Black Adam teased in the first Shazam film. After all, what’s a superhero without his mortal foe?

“Shazam” is scheduled for release on April 5, 2019.
