Fox Thinks a 'Wolverine' Reboot With a New Actor is Possible

Hugh Jackman may be done with playing Wolverine, but 20th Century Fox definitely isn’t. Stacey Snider, the studio’s chairman and CEO, revealed today that they are considering the prospect of rebooting the character with a new actor at some point.
This year saw Jackman bid farewell to his take on Logan/Wolverine after playing the character for nine films, spanning 17 years. His portrayal of the character went on to become one of the most integral figures in comic book movie history, and frankly, it’s hard to imagine someone else playing Wolverine. After all, Jackman cemented himself as the perfect representation of who and what Wolverine is. The movie “Logan” was the last film for Jackman as the titular character, and it ended his run with Wolverine’s death in a very emotional and touching way.

The rise of the new Wolverine

In an interview with Variety, Snider shared about how the studio is thinking of bringing in a new actor to take up Wolverine’s character. All she said was that “anything is possible.”
While this isn’t an official confirmation that a new Logan will come through, Snider seems to be open to the prospect of recasting the character. For the time being, Logan is an open project and can be picked up anytime the studio sees fit.

Logan has proven to be a very famous character—even apart from the “X-Men” franchise. It’s not entirely surprising that the studio plans to bring him back at some point. However, it’s clear that the studio isn’t looking to recast him just yet. Thanks to the wide success of “Deadpool,” the character has now become the studio’s main comic book movie flagship character. With the production for its sequel underway, it can be taxing to suddenly come up with a new Wolverine.
Nonetheless, Wolverine has had a detailed run, and so there isn’t actually much else to work with when it comes to his character on screen. But if the need for Logan arises, remember that the studio has Dafne Keen as X-23 to use instead of a new actor.
