Gary Oldman and Amy Adams to Star in ‘Woman in the Window’ Film Adaptation

Gary Oldman, known for his roles in Hamlet and The Dark Knight Trilogy, joins Amy Adams in the film adaptation of the novel “Woman in the Window.” Oldman also reunites with Darkest Hour Director Joe Wright who is currently attached to helm the film.

Woman in the Window will be an adaptation of A.J. Finn’s novel of the same title. An “expert” on mystery, Dan Mallory wrote the book but play billed as A.J. Finn. The reason is to maintain the possibility that a woman might have written the story like in Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. It follows Anna Fox, a child psychologist who develops agoraphobia or the fear of going to places that might cause one to panic. Fox spies on her neighbors from her townhouse and witnesses a crime. But when she comes to spill the beans, nobody believes her due to her status.

The novel debuted in the New York Times bestseller list this year. Due to its success, the book now has 38 language translations. With a million copies sold in the US alone, “Woman in the Window” topped the bestsellers charts in many countries. It remains the bestselling adult fiction title of 2018.

Oldman will play Anna’s father, while Adams stars as Anna. The actress is best known for her musical role in Enchanted. Adams also portrayed Lois Lane in DC’s Justice League and currently stars in HBO’s thriller series Sharp Objects, based on Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name as well.

Oldman worked with Wright on Academy Award-winning film Darkest Hour in 2017, in which the actor portrayed Winston Churchill. The movie won a total of six awards in this year’s Oscars, with Oldman snatching the Best Actor award.

Woman in the Window is slated for an awards-season release date next year, October 4th.
