Hans Zimmer to Perform Scoring Duties for 'Wonder Woman 1984'

After stepping out of the superhero-scoring limelight in 2016, Hans Zimmer is back to lend his musical prowess to yet another DC Extended Universe film. According to Film Music Reporter, the veteran composer is set to handle the score for Wonder Woman 1984, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot as the titular heroine.

WW84 will jump a few years (to 1984, duh) after the first film’s timeline, which was heavily reliant on the World War II narrative. Patty Jenkins returns to the director’s chair, as well as Steve Trevor actor Chris Pine (although his role in the film is kept under wraps). Rupert Gregson-Williams handled the fantastic score for Wonder Woman. But with Zimmer back into the fore, it’s exciting to hear “Is She With You?” again, which was Diana Prince’s iconic debut theme in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Despite Zimmer’s mini-retirement from scoring superhero movies, the composer recently came out of it to score the Simon Kinberg-directed X-Men: Dark Phoenix. That makes two epic superhero films from Zimmer in 2019.

Zimmer’s work has been featured prominently in award-winning films like Interstellar and Blade Runner 2049, so it’s no denying that everything that he touches will flourish. Apart from scoring two superhero movies, Zimmer is also set to handle the music of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King.

Wonder Woman 1984 also stars Kristen Wiig as antagonist Barbara Minerva/Cheetah and Pedro Pascal in an unspecified role (Maxwell Lord, maybe?). It’s slated for a November 1, 2019 release date.
