'IT' Director Andrés Muschietti Wants To Do A 'Pet Sematary' Remake

Stephen King’s “IT” movie remake hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but the overall positive anticipation for the film has been crashing in waves. Each trailer proved to be better than the last, with some people already calling as one of the most terrifying movies ever produced. But if you would ask director Andrés Muschietti, he wants to amp it up a notch. With “IT” being one of King’s well-loved stories, Muschietti has his eyes on doing a remake of another King classic—”Pet Sematary.”

For those unfamiliar with “Pet Sematary,” the story follows the Creed family after they move to a small town. Coincidentally, a cemetery is located within the town, which has a mystic power of enabling the buried to return. After Louis Creed’s son Gage is killed in a horrible road accident, he is determined to bring his son back. He successfully reincarnates him, although a murderous evil spirit resides now in Gage.

‘Pet Sematary’ Remake Might Happen One Day

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Muschietti said that he was a huge fan of “Pet Sematary,” and he’d be all in to do the remake if ever he can get his hands on it. “We’re huge fans of Pet Sematary,” Muschietti said. “If we can get our hands on that and do the Pet Sematary we want to do, that will be something. One day, maybe.”

While it’s entirely possible for Muschietti to helm “Pet Sematary,” the “IT” director is far from being the first director on the list. A few years ago, remake veteran Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) tried making his magic work in developing a new “Pet Sematary” adaptation, although the project didn’t bear fruit. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Late) also played with the project, but nothing happened. Maybe there will come a time when “Pet Sematary” will take off, but we’ll have to wait and see.

For now, all eyes are on Muschietti’s “IT.” If (and when) the movie turns out well, the director would surely be in a position where he can take on another King movie. Who knows, “Pet Sematary” might just be waiting for him all along.
