'It Movie' Director Andrés Muschietti Confirms The Film's Sequel

There are only a few days left before Andrés Muschietti’s recent take on the “It Movie” hits theaters. However, a sequel has already been confirmed by the director himself, saying that it will explore Pennywise the Clown’s cosmic dimension and the return to its 80’s setting.

The upcoming “It Movie” is the first in the two-part story that Muschietti is planning to do. The script for the sequel will most likely be finished by January 2018, and production set to begin in March. With this timeline in mind, it’s very likely that the second “It Movie” will come out sometime in 2019.

Despite this, Muschietti is thinking about the elements that will be included in the sequel.

The ‘It Movie’s’ Cosmic Dimension

In an interview with Yahoo, the director revealed some of his plans for the sequel to Stephen King’s “It.” Muschietti says that he plans to explore the otherworldly cosmic dimension called “The Deadlights,” a place where the true form of Pennywise resides. He also clarified that the sequel won’t just focus on the adult lives of The Losers’ Club, but it would also travel back to the 80’s.

“I really wanted to focus on the emotional journey of the group of kids,” Muschietti said.

“Getting into that other dimension — the other side — was something that we could introduce in the second part. In the book the perspective of the writing… is always with the Losers, so everything they know about Pennywise is very speculative and shrouded in absurdity, so I wanted to respect that mystery feeling of not knowing what’s on the other side.”

Muschietti also admits that the reason why “The Deadlights” wasn’t included in the first “It” movie was due to budget constraints. The director is clearly hoping for Warner Bros. to give him a higher budget for him to perfectly execute this dimension that ultimately weaves the story of “It” together. The director also added that “there will be a dialogue between the two timelines.”

The original “It” novel featured timelines from both eras, this statement from Muschietti might also suggest that “It: Chapter II” will have an actual interaction between their adult and child versions in the movie.

Right now, box office predictions are projecting a huge win for the “It Movie,” and it’s currently poised to be the best Stephen King adaptation yet. It’s set for release this Friday, September 8 in theaters worldwide.
