James Gunn Defends Chris Pratt Over Fans that Want Him Replaced with Patrick Wilson

Twitter has always been the home for some hot takes, and while they stand behind actors like Johnny Depp, there is another side that wants Chris Pratt to be removed as Star-Lord on the idea that he’s homophobic. While there are some who would defend Pratt online, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has stepped up to bat to defend who Twitter has dubbed as the ‘worst MCU Chris’.

Here’s Gunn’s reply to a post that wants Pratt to be replaced with Aquaman star Patrick Wilson:

When it comes to Pratt being branded a homophobe, there actually is no solid evidence of him actually saying or doing anything; but some fans are taking his membership of a specific church as a problem—seeing that the church that Pratt is a member of promotes conversion therapy. It also doesn’t help that Pratt hasn’t made any statements about the church, and hasn’t condemned them in any way.

With Gunn himself being a victim of ‘cancel culture’, losing his Guardians 3 job before he was brought back; I would imagine he has a lot of sympathy for Pratt who some fans are trying to get removed from a franchise that he helped build.

For now Pratt is yet to make any statements, but it looks like his career is safe. Disney still seems to be okay with him being Star-Lord and he also gets to run around with dinosaurs at Universal. Maybe he’ll eventually address the issue everyone is having, but for now, I don’t really think he owes anybody anything.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to come out May 5, 2023, but you can catch the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder which hits theaters July 8, 2022.
