It has been rumoured before that Lady Gaga was in talks to join the sequel to Todd Phillips’ Joker, and it looks like the Star is Born lead has confirmed her official involvement.

While we don’t have any official specifics for the film, it is said that Gaga will be playing the part of Joker’s psychiatrist—one Dr. Harleen Quinzel—better known as Harley Quinn. With Joker having found himself locked up at the end of his first movie, a romance between him and Harley seems like the natural progression of his story.
Then again, Harley and Joker’s romance in the comics and other media is notoriously toxic, with Joker usually being the more abusive one. Though the title Folie a Deux suggests a romance between Harley and Joker, a lot of writers consider Joker’s ‘true romance’ to be with none other than the Batman.
While the first film could have stood pretty well on its own, the massive success of Joker has prompted Warner Bros to greenlight a sequel. What’s interesting is, with Folie a Deux, we’re said to be getting a full-on musical film. We don’t know how exactly that tone is going to change, but I’m always up for these more experimental superhero outings.
Though several DC projects have recently found themselves cancelled, Joker 2 is one of the lucky projects that managed to keep afloat. Let’s hope Phillips and Phoenix have another story worth telling.
Joker: Folie a Deux is set to release in theaters Oct. 04, 2024.
