Lionsgate Wants to Keep Making John Wick Movies with Keanu Reeves after Chapter 4

Tom Cruise may be bowing out of the Mission: Impossible franchise soon, but Keanu Reeves looks to be playing John Wick for a couple more years.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, John Wick was supposed to end with the fourth movie, but the surprise success of the movie at the box office last weekend has urged Lionsgate to greenlight a fifth film, plus many more films featuring Reeves’ Baba Yaga.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake explains:

“There’s a will and there’s an openness… We’re all going to take a tiny rest here and then scratch at ideas about whether there’s a credible way to get into five. But there’s no guarantee.

“Keanu and Chad, rightly so, are very protective about never screwing with the audience. So we certainly have our work cut out for us. … Keanu is so beloved and that character is so beloved; that’s not lost on him.”

Though Lionsgate may be taking a breather after the fourth movie, there are planned spinoffs in the works, with one film called Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. Reeves is said to be reprising the role of Wick in that movie; and even then we should expect other spinoffs that could focus on fan-favorite characters in the mainline Wick films.

We don’t know what Reeves has planned moving forward, but with him turning 60 in the next two years, he’s going to have to keep himself limber if he’s going to keep doing these insane fight sequences.

Here’s the synopsis for the fourth movie:

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is now showing in theaters.
