Marvel Studios [Finally] Drops First Teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder

After months of speculating, Marvel Studios has finally given us our first look at Thor: Love and Thunder, and the movie promises a journey to oneself for everyone’s favorite Son of Odin.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description as well:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

While the description does name a lot of characters like Gorr and Jane Foster, there’s surprisingly very little of them in the trailer. Instead, the focus is really put more on Thor, and we get some of the Guardians and the evolution of Thor’s relationship with them.

It also looks like we’ve seen Russell Crowe’s Zeus, but maybe Marvel is just going to keep that reveal a secret as a surprise for general audiences. Some are actually guessing that we could meet Hercules in the movie, or at least get a mention of him. He is another friend of Thor in the comics.

As someone who isn’t the biggest fan of Thor: Ragnarok, I think Love and Thunder actually looks very interesting. I just hope that Waititi treats this story with a more serious emotional arc for Thor. We should also expect this to be the series handing off the torch to Jane as the new God of Thunder—but that’s just speculation.

Catch Thor: Love and Thunder when the movie comes out on July 8.
