Matt Reeves Planning Villain-Centric The Batman Spinoffs

Matt Reeves’ The Batman already had a variety of villains from the Penguin to Catwoman to the Riddler, but he’s looking expand the world of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight. We know that a sequel is in the works, but now we have confirmation of some spinoffs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is currently working on several spinoffs (we’re talking movies and TV) of The Batman villains. The site writes:

“The filmmaker is meeting with writers and directors to build out movies — yes movies, not just series — focused on Batman rogue’s gallery, both established and more obscure, with characters ranging from the Scarecrow to Clayface to Professor Pyg. All those projects are in the very early stages of gestation.”

We don’t have any prospective release dates yet, but these projects should play like the Disney+ Marvel series and release simultaneously to keep fans engrossed in the world of Reeves’ Gotham.

Admittedly, The Batman has stepped backward from the more fantastical DCEU version of Ben Affleck and has delivered some more grounded versions of characters. We don’t know how someone like Clayface could be delivered in this world, but I have a feeling that Reeves already has some idea.

What about Nicolas Cage’s Egghead?

No release date has been set for the next Gotham project, but we do know that an HBO Max series focused on the Penguin starring Colin Farrell is currently in the works.
