New Pixar Animated Feature ‘Soul’ To Be Released in June 2020

Pixar Animation Studios, together with its parent organization, Walt Disney Studios have announced a new original animated project, ‘Soul’. The new animated flick is the second original animated feature film to be released by the studio in 2020, following Tom Holland’s Onward.

In addition to the name release, a logline for the feature film was also given, it reads:

“Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams, and your interests come from? What is it that makes you… YOU? In 2020, Pixar Animation Studios takes you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.”

Pixar Studios and ‘Soul’

Pixar Animation Studios is perhaps second only to Marvel Studios in Disney’s list of subsidiaries. This is no surprise seeing as the Animation Studio has provided fans and critics with mind-blowing animated movies the likes of Toy Story, Cars trilogy, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc., Monsters University, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Brave, Up, Wall-E, the Oscar-winning Coco, and The Good Dinosaur among others.

The studio has constantly chalked up win after win—breaking both box office records for animated films, garnering love and affection from critics and fans and being immortalized in pop culture history. On Rotten Tomatoes, the studio has over 10 movies with a score of 95 percent and above, with others holding a strong 100 percent rating. In addition to this, the studio has won 9 Academy Awards for up to 9 of its animated films. It’s hands down an enviable and great track record for a studio that doesn’t seem to miss when it comes to its releases.

Soul Cast, Crew and Release Date

The release date for Soul was originally marked for Disney’s slate out through 2027, but a title wasn’t revealed. No cast has been announced yet for Soul as of this time. The director for Soul has been disclosed and should come as a source of hype for fans, Pete Docter. The director was the writer and helmer of classics such as Up, Inside Out, Toy Story 1 & 2, Monsters Inc and now he will return to the director’s chair for Soul. Docter has been nominated for 8 Oscars, two of which he won for his work in Up and Inside Out.

Although, Soul is not going the only animated film due for release next year as Pixar and Disney also have Onward. Onward will feature Holland, Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as voice characters. No cast has been announced for “Soul” as of yet. Onward tells the story of two elf brothers who live in a suburban fantasy world of mystical creatures. They set out on a quest to discover if there is still magic in the world.

Pixar currently has three more movies currently on Disney’s slate with the next one on June 2021. This will be followed by two others with the first coming in March 2022 and the second on June 16, 2022. These projects, however, are still unnamed by both studios.

The studio also has Toy Story 4 in theatres and the film currently holds a 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes after a week of its release.
