New Trailer for Lightyear Reveals a Time Jumping Plot
Published 8 months ago
We may not be getting a new Toy Story movie this June, but we will be meeting one of Pixar’s most beloved characters in a way we haven’t seen him before. Lightyear will be following the story of the ‘real’ Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger for Star Command, and we have a new trailer that gives us a good look at the story.
The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.
While Tim Allen has famously been the voice of Buzz in the Toy Story films, Pixar has decided to bring on Chris Evans to be the voice of the ‘real’ Buzz. Other voice actors in the film include Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, and Dale Soules. The movie also brings in James Brolin to provide the voice of Zurg—originally Andrew Stanton voiced Zurg in Toy Story 2.
It has been a while since we’ve gotten a Pixar spinoff, but since I liked Luca and Turning Red so much, I don’t really have that much complaints about Lightyear. If anything, it’s an interesting angle on the character, and I’m interested to see where Pixar wants to take this story in the future.
Disney Pixar’s Lightyear is set to hit theaters on June 17.
