Patty Jenkins Shares Photo Teasing New Suit for Wonder ‘Woman 1984’

Director Patty Jenkins has released a stunning new image for next year’s sequel to Wonder Woman. The sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984, is a follow-up to the critical and commercial success of 2017’s Wonder Woman. Although the director previously stated that Warner Bros. Pictures would not be making a Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con next month, Jenkins could not contain her excitement and made sure fans felt the same way by releasing the photo.

The teaser photo shows Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, in what appears to be a new costume. The new outfit is gold, shiny and surrounded by neon-hued colors in the background. And if you pay attention to the neon colors, you will discern that they combine to create a huge “W,” which obviously stands for Wonder Woman. You can check out the image below:

Wonder Woman 1984: What We Know So Far

The new suit of armor doesn’t seem to be inspired by the comics. Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman has undergone some costume changes in the comics over the years, but the image shared by Jenkins seems to be a creative decision no-one saw coming.

Now labelled by the internet as the “Golden Eagle” armor, the new outfit is certainly one that while we can’t wait to see, leaves us with some questions—If this sequel is set in 1984 and Princess Diana had this armor then, why didn’t she use it in 2017’s Justice League which was set in the future? Due to studios teasing and swerving fans such as using misleading trailers and posters, is this just a promotional image or will this actually show up in the movie? And finally, when is the #WW84 media campaign going to begin?

For the final question, we do have an answer. Jenkins tweeted with the released image “By now you’ve heard: WB isn’t going to Hall H this year. We’re so sad to miss you there! And waiting until Dec. to start our official #WW84 campaign in full–  But the truth is… we can just… barely… wait…” Fans can absolutely relate to Jenkins.

Wonder Woman “Sequel” Plus Cast and Plot Details

In an interview with Vulture, Wonder Woman 1984 producer Charles Roven (Dark Knight trilogy, Justice League, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) says that Wonder Woman 1984 is not a sequel. He adds that director Patty Jenkins likes to avoid using the word sequel, stating that “She (Jenkins) was just determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel,”. What that means is anyone’s guess.

With regards to plot details, the cast and crew have kept mum so far to build anticipation and hype. But a few details have been released such as the sequel taking place about 70 years after the first film, presumably after the Cold War. It features a new villain by the name of Cheetah and ardent fans will recognize her as Wonder Woman’s recurring arch-nemesis from the comics. In addition to this, Diana may have a new love interest which leads to speculation as to who this may be since Chris Pine is set to return as Steve Trevor in the movie.

Famed veteran composer, Hans Zimmer is back on board to lend his musical genius to Wonder Woman 1984. Zimmer, having composed Diana’s entrance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, will handle the score for the much-anticipated sequel.

Cast details so far have Gal Gadot to reprise her role as the iconic Wonder Woman (Diana Prince), the returning Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Pedro Pascal in an undisclosed role and Kristin Wiig as the villainous Cheetah (Barbara Ann Minerva).

Wonder Woman 1984 is slated for a June 2020 release.
