Possible First Look at Live-Action Sebastian from The Little Mermaid

Disney is gearing up for the release of The Little Mermaid later this year, and so far, only Halle Bailey has been getting the most exposure as Ariel. We know that the movie also features a lot of colorful animal sidekicks, and we may have had a look at the king’s advisor, the crab Sebastian voiced by Daveed Diggs.

This apparently comes from a leaked book cover:

Admittedly, there’s a huge difference in design when it comes to the character, since Sebastian is known to be an animated crab, and this version looks a lot like a realistic one. We don’t know if this live-action Sebastian is going to be as animated as the original, but I think we can assume he’ll be as expressive as the animals we saw in the ‘live-action’ Lion King directed by Jon Favreau.

For comparison, here’s Sebastian in the original movie:

Besides Sebastian, we have also yet to get a look at Flounder (Jacob Tremblay) and Scuttle (Awkwafina). We don’t know when we’re going to get a new trailer drop, but with the movie expected to have some pretty extensive CG, I’m guessing the next look could come out sometime in April.

Here’s the official description for The Little Mermaid:

“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

Watch out for Sebastian in The Little Mermaid which comes to cinemas on May 26.
