The Power Rangers Sequel Is Happening With Lord Zedd As New Possible Villain

The “Power Rangers” franchise has been in cold water this past few months. Lionsgate and Saban’s big screen reboot of the iconic cartoon show enjoyed a good opening box office weekend domestically, but failed to generate more earnings here at home. A strong performance was predicted in China, but it also failed to meet expectations.

All hopes for a sequel were put at risk because of those numbers, but thanks to merchandise sales (from the movie and the TV show), we might just see a “Power Rangers” sequel sometime soon. A Blu-ray release for “Power Rangers” is also coming, but we’re now learning about a sequel as per director Dean Israelite.

All Hope For Power Rangers Sequel Restored

In an interview with Screen Rant, Israelite voices out his ideas on the sequel and if it is likely to happen. “I hope so. It’s obviously not up to me, but I know the studio (Lionsgate) and Saban are talking in earnest about it, and are trying to push forward. They’re having a discussion,” Israelite said.

It’s a good sign that both studios are discussing a sequel, so this means that the hope for another “Power Rangers” movie is not truly killed just yet.

Lord Zedd As The New Villain

The “Power Rangers” had to deal with Rita Repulsa in the first movie; and now, things are somewhat heating up due to a possible new villain—Lord Zedd. Israelite has his sights set on a bigger and possibly more evil villain for the sequel.

The director told ComicBook.com, “well, Lord Zedd is the obvious choice, I think, in a good way. You know, there was a time when we were talking about Lord Zedd being in this movie. And it just felt like we didn’t have the real estate for it and I didn’t want to dilute our villains. So we kind of went all in on Rita.”

“And so I think definitely it would all expanding into the next volume I definitely think have to feature Lord Zedd. I mean that’s not set in stone but I think that’s the obvious, sort of, next step to it,” Israelite continued.

Rita Repulsa blasted off to somewhere at the end of the movie, and we could actually see a Repulsa-Zedd team up happening for the sequel. With Tommy Oliver also set to arrive (remember the mid-credits scene?), this is certainly an news for a sequel with Lord Zedd as the villain.

But whatever and whoever the villain might be, fans should definitely be excited to finally see Zedd take on the “Power Rangers” on the big screen.
