The Power Rangers Sequel May Not Happen Anymore

Before the “Power Rangers” movie was released, Lionsgate had a franchise planned for it. They were looking to make 6 more films before they head over to spinoffs. The studio hasn’t canceled the plans just yet, but it looks like they will soon enough. The “Power Rangers” sequel is hanging by a thread, despite favorable reviews. The movie failed to take home favorable box office earnings, giving the studio a little bit of a disappointing start to what could have been a cinematic universe.

Power Rangers Box Office Standing Might Be The Reason

The movie is currently sitting at an underwhelming $135 million total worldwide. Lionsgate had hoped that box office earnings would hit it off in China for its debut, but apparently, it did the complete opposite. It took in a total of $1.2 million on its opening last week. It’s too early to tell if this would go up or down, but still, it doesn’t exactly give you a favorable standing for an opening weekend. Right now, the studio might have to rethink their plans of launching a series of films for the “Power Rangers.”

It can be very unsettling for “Power Rangers” to experience this dramatic drop in earnings, after costing about $100 million, all hopes for a sequel might not be the best interest for another sequel, let alone a series of them. With this kind of opening the film experienced in China, Forbes reports that the studio might kill off all hopes of doing a sequel. The business magazine believes that the “Power rangers” has just experience an untimely death before it even began to spread it’s box office potential. This comes as bad news for a lot of fans, but it’s very understandable for the studio to not pour in too much of their investments for a second film.

Despite this news, we can all rest hopeful until Lionsgate makes an official statement. Maybe the sequel can still push through, given how “Power Rangers” received generally favorable reviews from the critics. Maybe the film takes off with a Blu-ray release, or maybe someone comes a long with a pitch so good that the studio would kill itself for not making a sequel happen.
