Rosaline Trailer has Romeo’s Ex Trying to Ruin His Relationship with Juliet
Published 1 year ago
We just got a modern take on Romeo & Juliet with Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, but how about a comedic twist to William Shakespeare’s classic play?
Watch Hulu’s new trailer for Rosaline starring Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever:
The movie is pretty much Romeo & Juliet but from the eyes of Rosaline, Romeo’s first love interest before he met Juliet. What’s funny is, Rosaline is actually a character mentioned in the original play, and though she doesn’t make an appearance or speak, she is the very reason Romeo goes to the party and meets Juliet.
It seems like a fun piece of fan fiction, and could have some interesting implications to the original story, what with Rosaline frustrated at Juliet for stealing her boyfriend and her coming up with ways to sabotage their relationship. What if the film ends with it being Rosaline’s fault that the two end up dying in the first place?
I think Dever is a great talent, and it’s going to be fun to watch her take on this old-timey setting laced with some modern romantic teen humor.
Here’s the film synopsis:
“Rosaline” is a fresh and comedic twist on Shakespeare’s classic love story “Romeo & Juliet”, told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Kaitlyn Dever), who also happens to be Romeo’s recent love interest. Heartbroken when Romeo (Kyle Allen) meets Juliet (Isabela Merced) and begins to pursue her, Rosaline schemes to foil the famous romance and win back her guy.
Watch out for Rosaline when it starts streaming on Hulu Oct. 14.
