Flamin’ Hot Trailer Shows How a Janitor Invented One of the Most Beloved Snacks of All Time

We’ve gotten biopics for all kinds of products from the expansion of McDonalds with The Founder to the promotion of the Air Jordans with Air, and Hulu has teamed up with filmmaker Eva Longoria to tell the story of the invention of… the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto.

Watch the trailer for Flamin’ Hot:

Here’s the film’s description:

FLAMIN’ HOT is the inspiring true story of Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia), the Frito Lay janitor who channeled his Mexican American heritage and upbringing to turn the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos into a snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global pop culture phenomenon.

The Flamin’ Hot Cheeto flavor has been around since 1991, and it’s kind of amazing how it’s a flavor that actually has a culturally-influenced story, what with Montanez discovering the flavor based on the Mexican snack esquites—a corn on a cob with cheese, mayonnaise, lime, and spicy powder.

We know that Cheetos are usually associated with college students and potheads, but I never would have guessed that the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto flavor was targeted at the Latino-American audience.

We shouldn’t expect any biopics to stick to a story a hundred percent, but I’m excited to find out the story of Montanez who is said to be a Mexican-American business icon and deserves to get his story told.

Flamin’ Hot is set to premiere on Hulu and Disney+ on June 9.
