Ryan Coogler Wanted to Tease Namor Since the First Black Panther

Black Panther had come out back in 2018, and with several other things happening in the MCU since, a clash with Namor was something that felt fresh when it was announced for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. What’s interesting is, director Ryan Coogler had been planning to tease Namor since the very first movie.

Talking to Empire, Kevin Feige reveals Coogler’s tease for Namor in the first BP. Feige explained, “Ryan had a pitch for a tag at the end of Black Panther… The camera would push through the palace in Wakanda, and then we’d see wet footprints leading up to the throne.”

Though we didn’t get a tease for Namor, we did get the press conference scene with T’Challa opening up Wakanda to the world. We didn’t really get an update on T’Challa’s outreach, but I guess the Winter Soldier stinger does set-up his role in Infinity War.

It still is pretty tragic that Chadwick Boseman should pass with the story of T’Challa still in the beginning, but I’m pretty sure that Ryan Coogler and the rest of his team at Marvel are trying their best to deliver a film that properly sends off the character of T’Challa as well as Boseman himself.

Though I am all up for a recast of the character, I’m willing to see what Wakanda Forever has to bring to the table, especially with all this pressure not only to celebrate a legacy, but to deliver an action blockbuster film as well.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters on Nov. 11.
