The Search for Love Continues in Trailer for How I Met Your Father 2

How I Met Your Mother may have encapsulated the dating scene of the mid ‘00s, but the spinoff How I Met Your Father has pushed the dating world forward to the 2020s. The second season is set to premiere in a few weeks, and we have a new trailer featuring the return of Sophie and friends.

Here’s the official description for Season 2:

Sophie and her close group of friends take on changes to their careers and love lives as they stumble into their 30’s. Figuring out life through trial and error isn’t easy, but there’s nothing you can’t get through with friendship and plenty of laughs.

The series actually does a very interesting twist on the How I Met Your Mother narrative model. Whereas HIMYM had us looking at Ted’s future kids as they listened to an older Ted narrating the story of how he met their mother, HIMYF actually puts us in the POV of Sophie’s child, and we get to look at an older Sophie tell her story. What’s also interesting is, we meet the father in the first episode, but it’s just a question of who he is since Sophie meets a bunch of men on that same day.

So far, the series is still finding its footing, but more people are warming up to the character of Sophie and her friends. I guess the pilot is pretty weak, but I’m eager to see where this goes.
