Stranger Things Director in Talks to Develop Star Wars Movie

Director Shawn Levy’s previous works like Stranger Things and The Adam Project have all been laced with references to Star Wars, but it looks like Lucasfilm is ready to bring him into the fold for an official project.

According to Deadline, Levy is currently in talks to develop his own Star Wars movie. The report doesn’t give us any specifics about the project, but it is said that Levy will only start development on his SW project once he wraps things up for Deadpool 3 and the final season of Stranger Things.

If you follow Levy’s filmography, you’ll know that he has a penchant for family-friendly action-adventure films—kind of like Chris Columbus back in his heyday around the 80s. You could also say he could be a modern-day Steven Spielberg, but that could be getting too ahead of myself.

So far, I think Levy is a good choice for Star Wars. After his work on Stranger Things, I would really love it if he would bring some kind of childlike whimsy to the films. While some didn’t really get that’s what the Sequel Trilogy was going for, I think the fans who enjoy that kind of material already have the other Star Wars Disney+ shows on to keep them satiated.

Then again, we never know.

No release date has been set for the next theatrically-released Star Wars movie, but fans are hoping we get something around 2024. In the meantime, you can always check out Disney+ for new Star Wars shows like The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor.
