The Strays Trailer: The Perfect Life Becomes The Perfect Lie

With M3GAN tearing up the box office this month, it looks like we’re getting some early horror in the year of 2023. Next month will have Netflix release The Strays, and we have a creepy new trailer starring Ashley Madekwe and Justin Salinger.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description:

A perfect life… a perfect lie… An upper-middle-class woman’s perfectly crafted life begins to unravel with the arrival of two shadowy figures in her town.

This looks to be the debut film for director Nathaniel Martello-White, who had worked on several shorts before getting credited for The Strays. The synopsis for the film is pretty vague, but seeing that more horror films have been embracing social commentary—like Jordan Peele’s Get Out or Remi Weekes’ His House—we should expect The Strays to have something to say as well.

My guess is it could be about class betrayal, especially with a middle-class black woman being terrorized by two people who look to be working lower-class jobs.

I’ll admit, there are some horror movies with less artsy finesse than others, but they all have something interesting to say, especially when it comes to real-life social horrors. Then again, I could be giving The Strays too much credit. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see until it releases.

We don’t know when we could get a new trailer for the film, but I expect we’ll have a more substantial preview around the middle of February before the film’s premiere.

The Strays is set to come out on Netflix on Feb. 22.
