Tenet may not have been the universal hit that audiences were expecting, but Christopher Nolan is set to come back to his period pieces with the upcoming Oppenheimer. Just in, Universal Pictures has just dropped a new trailer for the movie, and it gives us a better idea on the scope of the story.
Check this out:
Here’s the synopsis:
Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb.
The movie is actually based on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Besides the Cillian Murphy, the film also stars Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, and more.
While Tenet was more of Nolan trying to deliver an epic action blockbuster, Oppenheimer is considered to be one of his more ‘cerebral’ projects, with not so much action, but an exploration on the consequences of the creation of the atomic bomb; and the moral responsibility of the people behind it.
I’ll admit, Nolan’s films aren’t for everybody, but every time he makes a movie, people line up expecting another great film from one of cinema’s modern auteurs—whether they understand it in the first go or not. Let’s hope Oppenheimer manages to be another Inception-level hit.
Oppenheimer arrives in theaters on July 21.
