Todd Phillips Confirms Development of Joker Sequel
Published 3 weeks ago
While the first movie can pretty much stand on its own, there have been teases of a Joker sequel since its release. Just in, director Todd Phillips has confirmed that a sequel is in development, and that Joaquin Phoenix is going to be involved.
Here’s his post on Instagram:

While it’s a just a photo of the cover and Phoenix, we can deduce something out of the title Folie a Deux. The term has no direct translation in English, but its abstract meaning describes it as ‘an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually members of a close family’.
With Arthur mostly dealing with his loneliness in the first film, I think this sequel will actually give him someone to bounce off of this time. His most infamous love interest is no doubt Harley Quinn, but anyone who writes Batman will tell you that Joker’s true romance really is with the Dark Knight.
With Robert Pattinson’s Batman here to stay, it’s likely WB wouldn’t want to introduce a new version of the Dark Knight in this movie. Then again, The CW has like, five different Batmen running around (and sometimes dying), so it would be cool to finally have Phoenix’s Joker clash with Batman in his own film. I guess the twist could be that we only know the Joker’s POV of things as compared to Batman.
No release date has been set for the Joker sequel, but hopefully we get an update before the year ends.
