Tom Cruise Confirms That Top Gun 2 Is Happening

Who could ever forget about Tom Cruise’s Maverick? Or that iconic kiss while “Take My Breath Away” plays in the background? Paramount’s 1986 summertime adventure “Top Gun” has cemented itself as one of the best film classics of the 80’s, despite it being Cruise’s not-so best outings in terms of critical reception.

The film was a financial success, but it came as a surprise for fans that a sequel had not yet been officially announced. We all want to see what Maverick and Iceman (Val Kilmer) is up to, right?

Questions about a “Top Gun” sequel have been thrown at Tom Cruise whenever he promoted his latest films in the past years. But every time he’s been asked, he would reveal that there isn’t anything new about it — until now.

Top Gun 2 with Tom Cruise Is Officially Happening Soon

In an interview during his promo for “The Mummy” at Sunrise 7, Cruise was asked by the hosts if he had anything to share about “Top Gun 2.” He then happily confirmed that the sequel is indeed in the works, and that he will be starting to film it come next year.

This comes as very good news to long-time fans of the original “Top Gun” movie. They’ve waited so long, and now it’s here. With it being the first real step that we’re seeing to bring “Top Gun” back on screen, it’s still unclear how Cruise’s Maverick and Kilmer’s Iceman will be brought back as well.

It’s going to be weird if they won’t be able to fly as pilots for the sequel, but given the timeline of the sequel, they would have risen in their Navy ranks by the now.

“Top Gun 2” is currently in development and doesn’t have a release date and director yet. You can expect to hear new tidbits on the movie coming really soon.
