Two New ‘Transformers’ Movies in the Works at Paramount Pictures

The Transformers franchise seems to be on a roll after the smash reviews for 2018’s Bumblebee. Two new movies are set to follow Travis Knight’s soft reboot of the franchise, each getting a separate story from James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword).

Variety reports that the two scripts are in active development at Paramount Pictures right now and that the studio still looks highly upon its famous franchise. Directors for the two movies are currently being scoped out, with brand new cast members reportedly starring in the upcoming movies. Much like how Michael Bay fleshed out his own take on the Transformers franchise, sources also say that the scripts are being written with the intention of branching out into multiple storylines for the Autobots and Decepticons.

News of the two films in development comes two years after 2018’s Bumblebee allowed for a franchise restart. The movie starred Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena and centered on the story of the titular Autobot as Optimus Prime sent him to Earth to prepare a new base of operations following the civil war on their home planet of Cybertron. The movie ended with the Autobots arriving at Earth, ultimately creating a brand new timeline for the Transformers franchise to start fresh.

Bumblebee garnered a worldwide box office gross of $468 million, against an estimated budget of $135 million. It also stands at a whopping high rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated Transformers movie. Fans remain hopeful for a follow-up to Bumblebee. And given how the two new movies are currently being written the stage is set for another look where humans and Autobots live in near-perfect harmony.
