Will Disney Reunite With James Gunn For 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3'?

Rumors are stirring, and they’re saying that Disney might potentially rehire James Gunn to direct the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier this month, the talk was all about Disney promptly firing the Guardians of the Galaxy director after a series of Gunn’s old tweets resurfaced.

The tweets of concern made light of controversial issues like the Holocaust, rape, and pedophilia. According to MovieWeb, these tweets were brought back to light by right-wing conservatives striking back on the director who’s known to be vocal about his criticisms on Trump. Gunn immediately apologized claiming he has grown as a person. However, Disney has been quick to drop the ax.

In light of Disney’s decision, fans and personalities have rallied to show their support. According to The Guardian, over 350,000 supporters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have signed the online petition to reinstate Gunn. The Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista who plays Drax also spoke out in defense of Gunn. In a tweet, he described James Gunn to be “one of the most loving, caring, good-natured people” he’s met. Other personalities like BloodRayne director Uwe Boll, Rick and Morty’s Justin Roiland, Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum and Gunn’s own brother have also come forward to defend him.

Recently, the whole cast of Guardians of the Galaxy has signed an open letter in support of Gunn according to The Guardian’s report. In the letter, the cast served testimony supporting Gunn’s public apology. “…and his apology, now and from years ago when first addressing these remarks, we believe is from the heart, a heart we all know, trust, and love.” it read.

According to ScreenRant’s report, The DisInsider editor-in-chief Skyler Shuler revealed that sources say Disney is meeting with Gunn to discuss a potential reconciliation. “Hearing Disney will sit down with James Gunn. Reinstatement is possible. The Disney Company is taking its time with this situation,Shuler said in his tweet.

Before being fired, Gunn completed the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which was scheduled to start production in January. Fans are waiting for the verdict whether Gunn gets to see his script come to fruition himself or not.
